Constitution Day of India is observed every year on 26 November. It is also known as Samvidhan Divas or National Constitution Day, While Constitution Day is not a public holiday, various departments of the Government of India celebrate the day. Earlier, the day was commemorated as National Law Day.

Upon India’s independence in 1947, the new Congress-led government invited BR Ambedkar to serve as the nation’s first Law and Justice Minister. On 29 August, he was appointed Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee, and was appointed by the Constituent Assembly to write India’s new Constitution.
